A first look at iCloud Drive for Windows

Among the most interesting improvements in the dense pack of novelty which involves iOS 8, OS X Yosemite and iCloud , there is certainly drive, which enables the Apple online service to offer a method of storing much more similar to that offered by Dropbox and other competitors, integrating both side of the operating system on both the applications.

To this end, many upgrades are already coming from the same Apple and third-party developers in order to exploit the opportunities immediately added.

As already announced at WWDC in June 2014, there is also Windows as the third supported platform, and for some, like Andrew Cunningham of ArsTechnica has already been possible to look at the modus operandi of iCloud Drive on Microsoft.

Apparently, for some time the support page to download the iCloud Control Panel has served users with version 4, before returning to 3.1, which is the latest in an official capacity. From the comments of some readers on ArsTechnica, Software Update also brought the new package, and as currently we have no way to verify, it is more likely that the release was blocked as was the case on the Apple website.

But how does iCloud Drive on Windows? Essentially, those who have tried 10.10 will not find the screen on so much ” alien ” just as there is a dedicated connection between the favorites in the Finder, so it is also in its equivalent of Redmond, File Explorer. Inside you can freely include files and folders, within the limit of 5 GB total if you use the free basis; various applications for both Mac and iOS can also create dedicated folders in which to save their data.

Subject-specific options Finder, the user experience does not present great differences. In the screenshot you can see a dedicated link to photo’s iCloud, which replaces the more limited Streaming Photo.

As we reported earlier, the download version 4 does not seem to be available, but without official reasons you may not know whether it is a retreat wanted to or not. Perhaps the issue was liable to embarrass the Cupertino company, anticipating the competitive product functionality in the form of plug-in rather than wait and make it a priority to complete the development of OS X Yosemite, since it was decided not to give at least temporarily support the current stable branch, ie Mavericks.

Would have a greater sense of release at the same time, so pleasing everyone at the perfect time. We’ll see if Apple actually, someone in the office had pressed the button too fast or publication you decide to discover all the cards. In the meantime, we invite our readers among those with iOS devices and Windows PCs that managed to get the update to give us their impressions through the comment section.
