GeForce GTX 1080: New details on specifications and Fouders Edition

After the announcement of the two new GeForce GTX cards designed to gamers new details emerge, particularly with reference to versions Founders Edition which first debut on the market.

NVIDIA officially announced the GeForce GTX 1080 and GeForce GTX 1070, high-end models based on the Pascal GPU family that will debut on the market in a few weeks.

We have summed up this news and this news the initial details of, waiting to publish our performance analysis in the coming days to the expiration of the embargo.

Starting right from the prices we have to make a clarification: NVIDIA spoke by both boards of Founders Edition, version that will be offered at $ 699 and $ 449 respectively for GeForce GTX 1080 and GeForce GTX 1070.

But what is it? Just the card-based reference design developed by NVIDIA; characterized by the cooling system seen in the sample shown in the event and not from custom design developed by some partners.

NVIDIA then points on a strategy that sees its proposal reference card with a higher list price in comparison to what should be the minimum price level of partner cards, leaving in this way clearly indicate how the most affordable price lists can at least in theory arrive of proposals not based on the reference design, as opposed to what has been the case until now.

NVIDIA will release the debut single GeForce GTX 1080 -based reference design: this seems to imply that the launch will only GeForce GTX 1080 proposals to $699 list, then the Founders Edition, and not even the versions with a reference price of US starting from $599.

These considerations on the purchase cost are flanked by comparison with the price of the GeForce GTX 980 to debut practiced: we speak in this case of $549 plus tax average retail price suggested to the partners, a lower figure of $50 compared to the price indicated for the GeForce GTX 1080 and $150 lower than the Founders Edition.

Another technical element to be reported with reference to the GeForce GTX 1080 card has the power, based on a single 8-pin connector at the two 6-pin connectors of the GeForce GTX 980.

This choice has no impact in terms of the card’s maximum power, as a single 6-pin connector provides the maximum 75 Watt and an 8-pin comes up to 150 Watt, and lets see how the GeForce GTX overall consumption in 1080 is aligned to that of the GeForce GTX 980 even in spite of the significant increase performance.

Finally, we note that the NVIDIA reference board is equipped with 3 ports DisplayPort, an HDMI connector and a DVI Dual Link-D type.

This implies that it is not possible to connect one of these video cards to a screen provided with only VGA cable since it implemented the DVI connector is a digital-only and does not handle the analog signal of the VGA connection.
