Microsoft Announces Health and Band, Redmond also in the chariot of the wearable

A wearable device and an entire platform for fitness and health: these are the products that Microsoft has just announced. Microsoft also throws herself on the new trend in wearable, officially announcing a new platform for fitness enthusiasts and body care accompanied by a specific device.

Microsoft Health and Microsoft Bands work in parallel, and are not only compatible with Windows Phone, iOS and Android, but also with a variety of platforms to manage their activities, such as Jawbone UP, MapMyFitness, MyFitnessPal, Runkeeper.

At the base of the new Microsoft Health is a cloud-based service to organize in one place all the information gathered from various compatible devices. Here you can save the information on steps taken every day. The calories burned, heart rate, data that will be analyzed by Microsoft Intelligence Engine, which do certain habits to follow while exercising or during periods of sleep and wakefulness.

More details will come in the near future, including partnerships with OEM and third party service providers and the availability of the first SDK for developers.

Rounding out the new platform are Microsoft Band, a device that has been discussed for a long time by many rumors, and finally becomes official. It is a wearable designed to be worn 24 hours every day, and includes 10 sensors to monitor many aspects related to the own body.

Band also integrates a GPS receiver for geolocation, and a sensor for measuring any prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays. Despite the size of a tight, Microsoft Band will also have some features typical of smartwatch, such as access to Cortana, notifications of messages, calls and appointments. These features are of course only available if you are logged pairing with a smartphone Windows Phone 8.1.
