Olympus Tough TG-870: The compact rugged with 21mm optics
This category of cameras has generally been fairly standard for parameters, seen that the construction with non-projecting optical imposes stringent limits. From this point of view, the new Olympus Tough TG-870 demonstrates an interesting evolution, widening the views and pushing up to 21mm minimum focal.
There are some niche markets where compact cameras cannot be attacked by mobile: the segment of superzoom (even pocket, which now easily come to 25x zoom range) is certainly one of these, but also that of the rugged it is a portion to which the struggling smartphone to approach.
The reason is obvious: even if some of the top ranges are waterproof, the most extreme conditions – especially the impacts – could be detrimental to the life of the cell, thwarting a purchase from several hundred dollars.
The armored compact can overcome rather unscathed even the most adverse situations: for example, the last born of the house Olympus Tough TG-870, is able to withstand immersion to 15 meters deep, drops of up to 2.1 meters and to withstand loads up to 100kg, working without any problem even when the temperature drops to -10°C.

The optical stabilized at 5 axes. Feature not obvious for a ruggedized is the presence of a 3″ display (920,000 points) swivel, which can also be rotated 180° forward to assist in the shots from selfies.
The sensor is a 16 megapixel illuminated CMOS and is assisted by a TruePic VII processor and with iHS technologies. in its data sheet does not then miss the GPS receiver, Wi-Fi connectivity, the ability to record Full HD 1080 60p, a xenon flash for photos and normal LED illuminator videos and pictures in Macro mode.
