Western Digital unveils new SSDs for HGST 1.6 terabytes

Three different models for business applications and professional services. Through its subsidiary HGST, Western Digital unveils new SSDs intended to servers and professional applications, with record capacity of up to 1.6 terabytes. They are the new models of the Ultrastar family, divided into three different categories that prioritize speed, durability, and access to the most in reading.

All models are 2.5 inches in size with a thickness of 15 mm and connecting SAS 12 gigabits per second, all made with Intel MLC NAND memory built with a 20 nanometer process.

The Ultrastar SSD1600MR models are built for applications that require mostly read access, with capacities ranging from 250 GB up to 1.6 terabytes. Same capacity for the SSD series Ultrastar SSD1600MM able to withstand up to 25 complete rewritings of memory every day for 10 years, while the series models Ultrastar SSD800MH.B high-performance bear up to 25 complete rewritings per day for 5 years.

Impressed with the performance declared by the manufacturer that reached transfer speeds up to 1,100 MB per second, while the random read and write operations, respectively, coming up to 130,000 and 110,000 IOPS. All new SSDs from HGST are already available. The prices were not disclosed.
