DJI Mavic Mini: The smallest and lightest DJI drone is also foldable (and inexpensive)

DJI Mavic Mini

DJI has just announced a new drone, the smallest ever made by the Chinese company. DJI Mavic Mini is already available at preorder for $399.

In the official equipment, it is proposed with a radio control, a battery and a set of spare propellers, and there will also be a ” Fly More Combo ” package that will include a paraeliche, three batteries, a charging hub, a case and three sets of propellers. Additional, and other accessories, at a price of $499.

Despite the attack price much more aggressive than the current models in the brand’s line-up, DJI Mavic Mini has a whole series of features that we have already seen on the older brothers. It’s as small as DJI Spark, but the folding arms – characteristic of all Mavic models – make it much easier to carry around.

The weight is only 0.16 ounces and was established on the basis of the restrictions of the American FAA: the new model can be piloted in the USA without having to register it with the administration. It is recommended to ” always fly with awareness and in compliance with laws and regulations clubs ” in each country.

Official DJI Mavic Mini, small, foldable and super-transportable drone

DJI Mavic Mini borrows some of the software features of current models, such as geofencing, which allows pilots to avoid flying in restricted access areas; AeroScope, the remote identification system that protects sensitive areas; the pre-set quota limits, or the function for automatic return to the take-off point if the connection to the radio control is lost or the battery is running out.

Thanks to the low weight, moreover, DJI can promise a flight autonomy of about 30 minutes for each single battery. The camera integrated in the body of the new drone does not reach 4K for video recording, but stops at 2.7K at 30 frames per second, and is equipped with a sensor with the size of 1/2.3″.

It also supports Full video recording HD up to 60fps and shooting photos at a maximum resolution of 12 Megapixel. We then have the possibility to stream via Wi-Fi and integrated GPS receivers.

There is of course also a three-axis gimbal for the stabilization of the shots, which is also a feature present on all the other drones of the company (excluding the Spark). Among the compromises that DJI had to reach, we have the presence of a reduced number of vision sensors.

We have only a few of them facing downwards, which help in maneuvers at low altitude and in soft landings, but it will be the operator’s responsibility to avoid obstacles in front or behind the drone during flight, such as trees, walls or other objects.

New DJI Fly App

DJI Mavic Mini can be controlled through a new DJI Fly app, which allows you to simplify some flight maneuvers in order to allow pilots of different experience levels to control them. There are tutorials that explain the operation of the drone, as well as several modes: Position (P) allows you to make movements easier, while the Sport (S) and CineSmooth (C) modes allow you to obtain more effective shots for the pilots more experienced. There are plenty of preset maneuvers:
