Huawei P8 Lite: Review

Huawei P8 Lite

As usual with all the major manufacturers, the flagship Huwei P8 has followed a revised and scaled in sizes, specifications and also in the price, in the name of the decline but without disfiguring.

It is the custom of all the smartphone makers announce together with its top of the range, or at least a few weeks away, a version of the same magazine and resized that is positioned in the mid-market.

Except for the Compact series of Sony, it is almost always solutions practically identical to the high-end products as regards the aesthetic appearance but with technical characteristics decidedly less important. The number of solutions in this category is now very large and has its origin in the Galaxy S3 Mini to Samsung, the first version of ” shrunk ” the top smartphone Galaxy S3.

It happens so that all manufacturers have to gradually adapt to this modus operandi. The name, often similar to that of the version most renowned and expensive, it attracts many consumers that, at a decidedly low price, they can show off their mini-smartphone top.

Among the companies that have adopted this strategy are, now for a couple of years now, even the Chinese Huawei, now considered as one of the brands most important of the smartphone world view but also nationally. Just the latest high-end smartphones of the Chinese manufacturer has hit the public especially of professionals from different points of view.

Huawei P8, the name of the solution, it offers interesting technical features at a price much lower than the competition. We speak of $499 compared with more than 6/700 of the main rivals. Shortly after his announcement came so ” mini ” version of this smartphone, which in the next lines will offer an in-depth after a few days of use.

The name of the solution, as happens in such cases, incorporates part of the top of the range and adds the nickname ” lite “, meaning that it is precisely the ” light ” version of Huawei P8. Hence Huawei P8 Lite, a smartphone that closely resembles the top of the range and that hides very well its limited technical as well as its design a bit less premium than that of his brother.

Starting from the exterior we can say that the two solutions, at first glance, they resemble very much. The shape and the aspect ratio are practically identical, as is the position of the connectors and the various sensors and cameras inside the body.

What changes is the materials, and if Huawei P8 is a blaze of materials metallic and glass in a one-piece shell, the Lite version is decidedly less valuable from this point of view.

Huawei P8 Lite is entirely made of plastic, although at first glance you would not think. Since it follows the design and look back at the finish of his older brother, the effect that it has it is still to a solution whose design has been taken care of properly.

Display and Camera

In the front of the smartphone we display that measures 5 inches diagonally and has a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixel HD. This is not definitely a display of high definition but we can assure you that the images are still sharp and the difference with a FullHD display, while noting it is not as important as you might think.

We have found that it is a good display quality of Huawei P8 Lite. The colors are reproduced faithfully and fairly, although the reference triangle covers an area slightly larger, we are facing a solution certainly valid. The accuracy of the white point is quite good since it is only slightly shifted to the cooler tones of the color range.

Brightness is only fair. The maximum value we detected with our measuring a value of around 300 nits. It is not a display super bright but well compensated by the excellent depth of black that allows to have a contrast ratio quite high, making this display discretely visible even in adverse light conditions.

Definitely good, the angle of vision, as we can see from the photo above, allows you to have a complete view of the information screen in the event that the same result much inclined to our visually. Both tilting the smartphone is on the vertical axis on the horizontal one, we only a slight loss of brightness but the colors remain unchanged as well as the color fidelity of the same.

A good multimedia sector, as well as a display height, should consist of a camera capable of capturing images with an equally high quality. From this point of view Huawei P8 Lite provides a sensor from well 5 megapixel in the front part, able to guarantee excellent selfie, and a counterparty inserted in the back cover can capture photos up to 13 megapixels of resolution. On paper, it seems a good solution but how it works, in reality this camera?

In situations of favorable light, as we can see from the above reported and by its enlarged detail at 100%, the camera of this Huawei P8 Lite offers performance aligned with those of other smartphones of the same wing, indeed, in some cases even higher. The details are distinct and even the definition is so good to be able to distinguish the texture on leaf placed next to the body of the bee, the head of which we can also observe the grain of the wood.

It is well known, that the real problems arise, when the lighting conditions are made adverse or when light is scarce. Hence above shows the same picture taken in almost total absence of light. The result obtained is very different. Indeed, we can notice a common background noise in an attempt to be softened and camouflaged, makes the picture much less clear, kneading the details in a kind of watercolor effect. Given the conditions we are still very complicated on a fairly good level, with results displayed on the screen are still acceptable. Of course, we cannot think of printing an enlargement of one of these images, but we believe it is a scenario of use quite unique.

Utilization and Conclusions

Within this Huawei P8 Lite, we find a processor of production of Huawei. It is a Hi-Silicon Kirin 620, that is, a SoC with 8 logical cores operating at 1.2 GHz frequency, accompanied by a GPU Mali 450 MP4. It is a solution which, flanked to 2 GB of RAM memory, is able to ensure the performance discrete, that more suited to operations that daily carry with smartphone. Even the management of multitasking is smooth and responsive. Actually, it is now difficult to find a device, also of medium / low, that it cannot meet our basic needs.

Excellent work done by Huawei regarding the management of active applications: cleaning system memory and resource monitoring, is the same that we find in P8 and it works very well indeed. The 2 GB of RAM reach saturation very rarely and also in this case a quantity of the same is automatically cleaned up in order to continue to use the smartphone without hitches or delays.

The operating system is a dowry, of course, Android in the latest version, or Lollipop. Sin from power, we realize as the Google OS has been reviewed and substantially modified with a proprietary interface, the EMUI, which makes the experience of using the most simple and intuitive.

We do not have the drawer, or the application menu, as instead we find on many other Android. Installed applications are accessed simply by a swipe to the left, a little as in iPhone: We once all the app icons on the boards of the home.

The whole graphic interface has been revised and redesigned icons and characters very sober and clean. There are many possibilities for customization and are the themes, pre-installed or downloaded from special store, allowing you to give an original touch to your smartphone without any effort.

The battery of this Huawei P8 Lite is certainly one of the most spacious to be found on board of a smartphone. We are facing a 2,200 mAh unit, sufficient to reach the end of a day of moderate use with a minimum of power remaining. In case you are thinking of using this smartphone for work or for days of heavy usage instead get yourself an external battery that allows you to charge the device outside the home.

And the price? The price is about $249 for both the white to the black. Recall that in both cases, the internal memory is 16 GB but you can expand through microSD memory cards. When we were looking for a good smartphone unpretentious but able to meet all our needs, just over $200 goes right between the first choices of the mid-market.
