Intel XMM 8160 is the new modem presented by the Santa Clara company that will allow mobile devices to communicate with the new 5G standard. As we have already written on several occasions, 5G connectivity will begin its journey to become a ubiquitous standard from next year, even if 4G and 3G are not ” retired ” immediately.
The new Intel XMM 8160 has been expressly designed for devices such as smartphones, PCs and gateways. According to initial specifications, this new 5G modem will support maximum speeds up to 6 Gbps making it much faster than previous connection modes. The actual launch timing on the market is given for the second half of 2019 while the devices will arrive in 2020.
One of the peculiarities of this model is that of being able to manage all these standards in a single chip, thus benefiting the manufacturers of devices that can produce compact and energy-efficient products.
