Great event today for Sonos in New York for the presentation of some important news for its range. The first was evident even before the conference started (we followed it in streaming): a gigantic mouth appeared on the display. It was immediately understood then that the novelty could be a smart speaker with voice control.
Sonos One, this is the name of the new solution, equipped with six microphones to better recognize the voice, even if the environment is noisy, it is compatible with the Amazon Alexa system. A system able to feel even when the music is playing and to automatically lower the volume to better understand the users’ requests.
As typical for the US brand, both design and sound quality took great care in the design of the loudspeaker. Based on PLAY: 1, Sonos One is supported by two class-D amplifiers and drivers designed specifically for the acoustic architecture of the new speaker. Naturally, it was born to connect with all the other speakers of the range in the ecosystem called Home Sound System.
From the PLAY: 1 system the new Sonos One inherits the resistance to humidity, so as not to have problems even when placed on the terrace or in the bathroom. It integrates a tweeter and a mid-woofer and connects to the home Wi-Fi network with any router with 2.4 GHz transmission compatible with the 802.11 b/g protocol, but it also offers the possibility of a wired connection with an Ethernet cable.
Sonos believes in the longevity of its products and brings compatibility with Amazon Alexa also on previous products via firmware update. In addition, the US brand has worked on the app to make easier for the most common operations, such as multi-room management, thanks to a shortcut bar that now populates the bottom of the display.
