Sony has decidedly set the fifth: after the launch of the flagship mirroless Sony A9 last April, today comes the time for a renewal (the third) for the camera of the Sony Alpha A7 family in higher resolution, the R version.
The new Sony A7R Mark III still leverage the 42.4-megapixel Exmor R CMOS full-frame back-frame sensor of the previous model, but introduces interesting innovations in ergonomics and technical features. Let’s start with one of the weaknesses that has always characterized the A7 family: the battery.
The depth of the gust stands at 76 compressed or 27 uncompressed RAWs. The new shutter should also minimize the vibrations, for sharper images and totally without camera shake. The in-body stabilization system remains a mainstay, which now allows a gain of 5.5 stops according to the tests carried out with CIPA standards.
Sony A7R Mark III remains a camera that is very difficult even in video where it can shoot 4K UHD movies in full-frame mode, both in crop mode Super 35. New feature Hybrid Log Gamma, which allows you to view HDR content directly on the display compatible with the HLG standard without the need for post-processing.
Strangely, Sony A7R Mark III does not assemble directly on board the final image (which will have a resolution of 42.4 megapixels), but the operation must be done in post production on computers with a free software that the Japanese giant will make available.
Also new is the anti-flicker support, which synchronizes the burst with the peaks of artificial or fluorescent lights, so as to obtain photos always correctly exposed. There is no lack of Wi-Fi connectivity, but there are also news on wired connections. Next to HDMI, headphone jack, microphone input and flash syncro we have two USB connectors: one microUSB and the other USB-C.
