The new Crucial BX500 SSD start at $30 for 120 GB of capacity

Crucial has announced a new range of SSD destined for the entry level range: the new Crucial BX500 SSD stand as the cheapest in the manufacturer’s offer, with prices starting at just $30.

The new Crucial BX500 use NAND 3D chips produced by Micron and are available in 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB formats. All use only the SATA connector and the SATA III standard (6 Gbps), a factor that has helped in containing prices compared to NVMe alternatives. The performance still looks good: Crucial declares values of 540 MB/s in reading and 500 MB/s in writing with sequential workloads.

Despite the placement in the lower end of the market, features such as temperature detection, acceleration of writing via an SLC cache (and, from what appears to be, without a consistent DRAM cache), a control algorithm of the multi-step data integrity, active garbage collection, TRIM support, and so on.

The Crucial BX500 will be available with prices of $30 for the 120 GB model, $50 for the 240 GB model and $90 for the 480 GB model. It is highly probable that these prices will be converted into euros without significant differences.
