Nest presents Cam IQ, surveillance camera that distinguishes things and people

It has not been long since Nest has landed in Nest, and today, in its catalog, made up of a famous thermostat and two security cameras (indoor and outdoor), adds a new product.

This is the Nest Cam IQ, a surveillance camera that combines clean design, excellent definition and outstanding intelligence in recognizing people, faces and objects.

The cam is enclosed in a white shell that is very similar to that of the sister dedicated to outdoor video surveillance, a simple and elegant design, certainly better than the somewhat dated Nest Cam Indoor. The heart consists of a 1/2.5″ sensor with 8MPx resolution, theoretically able to record 4K video, which are limited to Full HD at 30fps with HDR mode.

Additionally, a speaker, A series of microphones and LED-IR night vision ring for night vision. These LEDs, using the 940nm wavelength, illuminate the room without the possibility of being seen by the human eye, unlike traditional lighting IR that often betray their presence by invading the spectrum of visible light.

But the true strengths of Nest Cam IQ are in its ability to recognize objects and people. Being able to distinguish the first from the second, the cam will take a digital zoom on the person’s face, recognizing a familiar face with a stranger (this feature requires a Nest Aware subscription).
