Android 10 Go: all the details and requirements of the lightened version of Android

Android 10 (Go Edition) will have several new features, especially in terms of performance and memory efficiency for background apps. Google announces the news.

Google has released some details on the latest version of Android Go, the lightened variant of the operating system designed to run on devices that have less than 1.5GB of RAM and less-than-average hardware.

With Android 10 (Go Edition), Google has improved – based on the official note – the basic performance of the operating system and security. The passage from one app to the other is speeded up, which is now even more efficient in terms of memory consumption. Compared to the previous release the apps are launched 10% faster, and with Android 10 Go Edition you can also see the first implementation of Adamantum.

Adamantum is a new standard for cryptography designed for devices that have low computing power available. It was announced in February and should be – on less powerful machines – five times faster than AES encryption used on Android devices. It does not require dedicated hardware to work properly and is intended to bring strong encryption to even the least bodied devices.

The Android Go project was started in 2018, and since then 1,600 devices have been used. About 500 producers participated in the initiative in more than 180 countries and, in percentage terms, the Go variant can be found in around 80% of low-level Android smartphones. According to Google, the first devices with Android 10 (Go Edition) will be released starting next fall.
