Chuwi UBook, an even cheaper 2-in-1 than Surface Go
Chuwi UBook was re-launched in December with a new hardware configuration, moving from the Intel Core m3-6Y30 processor to the more powerful Intel Celeron N4100.
In early 2019, Chuwi launched the 2-in-1 Chuwi UBook device through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, raising over $ 450,000. Recently, in December, the company updated the system’s hardware configuration.
Thanks to the implementation of the new Intel Celeron N4100 the device gains power and fluidity. Previously, UBook was sold with the Intel Core m3-6Y30 processor, while the new processor has four cores, the possibility of processing four threads simultaneously and a maximum operating frequency of 2.4GHz. In addition to the updated performance, the Intel Celeron N4100 processor is characterized by low power consumption.
For graphics processing, the Chuwi UBook is upgraded from the Intel Graphics UHD515 GPU to the Intel Graphics UHD 600 versions, which can more easily decode 4K videos. As for storage, UBook has been updated with a 256 GB SSD (replacing the previous eMMC unit), which is faster in reading and writing. The 2-in-1 also uses 8 GB of LPDDR4 RAM, making it more efficient in handling multiple tasks.
Chuwi UBook is promoted by Chuwi as a ” cheaper ” solution than Microsoft Surface Go: at a similar price, compared to the 8 GB RAM and 256 GB UBook storage space, Microsoft’s 2-in-1 has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage space.
In addition, UBook has USB Type-C, USB 3.0 ports, headphone jack, Micro HDMI port, and microSD memory card slot. In contrast, Surface Go only has a USB Type-C port, headphone jack, and microSD memory card slot.
With the only USB-C interface present, for example, the user cannot recharge the device while performing operations such as transferring data via USB port. To do this you need to purchase Surface Dock.
