To debut new AMD processors: FX, Series A and Athlon

AMD updates its range of processors for desktop systems offering versions subject to AM3+ socket systems like those socket FM2+. Among the changes heatsinks bundled.

AMD announces today a new series of processors, in addition to an adaptation of its cost structure of the processors and of the APU of the series A. The first novelty is represented by the FX 8370 processor coupled to Wraith heat sink, a solution which had been shown US premiere by the company last January at the CES in Las Vegas.

This processor will also continue to be offered in conjunction with the cooling system originally bundled with a list price that is less than $10. New heat sink, with a structure similar to that Wraith, also accompanies the AMD A10 and Athlon X4 processors in different versions on the market: even in this case, the AMD approach aims to provide consumers with a simple cooling system to install, but that is at the same time able to ensure adequate thermal dissipation, balancing the operating noise.

AMD CPU 2016

This sink is certified by AMD for processor characterized by a maximum TDP of 95 watts; will be provided in conjunction with A10-7860K and Athlon X4 845 processors that are announced today by AMD as well as with models A8-7670K, A8-7650K, Athlon X4 870K and Athlon X4 860K that are already on the market.

The processors of the series A and Athlon proposals share the same socket, that of FM2+ motherboards: the solutions to integrate with internal GPU component, while the Athlon require a discrete video card to these combined. The A10-7860K model features 4-core CPU and 8 GPU cores (512 stream processors), with 3.6 GHz clock frequency and peak maximum of 4 GHz via Turbo technology. The TDP is 65 watts, as it allows for interesting level interventions to overclock the CPU as the GPU.

For the model Athlon X4 845 quad core architecture we find with default frequency of 3.5 GHz and a maximum peak of 3.8 GHz via Turbo technology, all with TDP of 65 Watt and L2 cache in total quantity of 2 Mbytes. The peculiarity of this CPU is that it is the first AMD-based core of the family Excavator solution, until now used by AMD for mobile APU-based Carrizo platform.

Following are the suggested retail prices for the new processors, excluding taxes, in the North American market:

  • AMD FX 8370 Wraith – $ 199.99
  • AMD FX 8370 – $ 189.99
  • AMD A10-7860K – $ 117.99
  • AMD A8-7670K – $ 105.99
  • AMD A8-7650K – $ 95.99
  • AMD Athlon X4 870K – $ 89.99
  • AMD Athlon X4 860K – $ 79.99
  • AMD Athlon X4 845 – $ 69.99

With today’s announcements, AMD aims to give new interest to its range of CPU and APU targeted at entry level desktop PCs and media. These proposals, in comparison with AMD solutions of families Core, Pentium and Celeron, they run a greater number of core’s CPU exiting though penalized in terms of the single core efficiency. different outcome for the GPU component integrated into the APU Series A, capable of fast performance, superior to those of Intel solutions, especially with gaming applications.
