Ford Mustang Mach-E: 100% Electric and with autonomy up to 600 kilometers. The Blue Oval revealed it at the Los Angeles Motor Show, as he had already anticipated. Mustang Mach-E completely embodies the spirit of Mustang and follows its aggressive and sporty lines, at the same time taking inspiration from the Tesla as regards the front and grille.

Ford Mustang Mach-E is immediately recognizable like any Mustang, thanks to distinctive elements such as its long hood, lowered rear design, aggressive headlights and tri-bar taillights.

Battery

We talk about acceleration and torque out of the ordinary, thanks to the electric propulsion. In the all-wheel drive Ford Mustang Mach-E, a new all-wheel drive system distributes torque independently per single axle, to deliver such disruptive acceleration. The batteries of the new Mustang Mach-E have 288 lithium-ion cells for the standard version and 376 lithium-ion cells for the extended range.

The battery pack has been designed to maximize internal space and improve aerodynamics thanks to the low center of gravity. The battery, which uses an advanced liquid air-conditioning system, is integrated in the frame between the two axes and has been tested to withstand extreme temperatures in the order of minus 40 degrees Celsius.

In the version with rear-wheel drive and extended-range battery, the range reaches up to 600 km according to the WLTP (World Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure) protocol, according to Ford’s release.

How to recharge

The Blue Oval has also thought of a specific solution for users who recharge the vehicle at home. Ford Connected Wallbox will deliver up to five times more charging power than a standard household outlet, which translates into a maximum range of 51km per hour of charging.

The connected navigation system will also identify updated public charging points while traveling and will encourage owners to charge at the most convenient points, all to ensure that they don’t have to be concerned about the range available to them.

Using the connectivity provided by the FordPass Connect on-board modem, real-time notifications on the status of the recharge will be forwarded to the driver, while with the FordPass app, it will be possible to plan the route taking into account the distribution of the charging stations in the area.

Ford is a founding member of the IONITY partnership that aims to build 400 stations in major European locations by 2020, with a 350 kW charging capacity, higher than the latest Tesla technologies (they stop at 250 kW).

This allows a significant reduction in charging times compared to existing systems. The new IONITY columns with a maximum power of 150 kW allow the Mustang Mach-E to have a maximum range of up to 93 km with just 10 minutes of charging.

Ford electric SUV will provide three unique driving modes: Whisper, Engage and Unbridled, each with specific driving dynamics. Enabling one of the three modes will have matches in terms of interior lighting and animations in the control panel, and will modify the sound of the engine.

Infotainment

Coming to infotainment, 4th generation Sync debuts with Ford Mustang Mach-E with a modern interface that uses machine learning to quickly understand driver preferences and improve over time. Ford underlines how important the evolution and improvement of the vehicle’s performance over time is through the release of over-the-air updates.

The new-generation Sync is combined with a 15.5-inch screen with a simple interface that eliminates the classic complicated menus, making it easier to access the various functions through the touch and pinch&swipe controls.

Equipped with cloud-based connectivity and conversational voice recognition, the new generation Sync system offers twice the processing power compared to the previous one, according to Ford’s promises. The system also introduces wireless compatibility with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and AppLink apps from smartphones and mobile devices.

In addition, you can board the vehicle and start the engine via your smartphone thanks to the Phone as a Key function. Using Bluetooth, the SUV is able to detect the driver’s smartphone as it approaches, unlocking the Ford Mustang Mach-E and allowing you to start driving without taking your phone out of your pockets or using a key.

In the event that the smartphone is empty, a backup code can be used by entering it on the keyboard on the central upright, while a different code can be entered in the central touchscreen to start the engine.

Interior

Designed with the typical proportions of an SUV to comfortably accommodate five adults, the Ford Mustang Mach-E leaves plenty of room for friends, children and luggage. In addition to the front trunk, the rear trunk offers 402 liters of space. With the rear seats folded down, the Ford Mustang Mach-E boasts 1,420 liters: more than enough space for luggage, camping equipment or anything else you may wish to move.
