Fossil Gen 5 Smartwatch: The new model
The new Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch brings with it several new features that make it a more complete and usable product. The company has decided to integrate a new speaker in addition to increasing the amount of memory.
The US manufacturer has announced the Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch model.. But what will be the innovations introduced?
The new Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch has a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC that is fully supported by Google’s Wear OS. But if this platform was already present in other models, there is a design that recalls traditional watches and an integrated speaker.
It also aims to increase the autonomy thanks to the new smart feature of Fossil Gen 5. and to the memory that reaches 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage. Since Fossil is a fashion brand, different colors (six) could not be missing with combinations of black, smoky gray and rose gold (as well as a series of straps to match).
The Fossil Gen 5 case has a diameter of 44 mm, which is thought more for the male wrist but which thanks to the straps, and the rose gold finish can also be adapted to a female audience.
Thanks to a Fossil patent, the new Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch boasts four different modes of use that allow it to increase its autonomy (one of the weaknesses of smartwatches with Wear OS).
- Extended battery life mode : extends the autonomy by maintaining notifications and heart rate monitoring.
- Day mode : almost all functions can be used. The screen is always on.
- Custom mode : allows you to manage the functions to optimize the battery life.
- Time only mode : displays only the time and is the ” reserve ” function for when there is little remaining charge.
One of the novelties is the water-resistant speaker. This allows, together with the microphone, to use Google Assistant but also to hear the answers and not just see them on the screen.
Another feature is call answering. If for the moment, on Wear OS it was possible to exploit this possibility with Android smartphones, Fossil announced that with Fossil Gen 5 and an app that will arrive in the fall, iPhone users will be able to answer directly from the smartwatch.
Also thanks to the speaker you can play sounds for alarms, timers, notifications, translations by Google Translate, play music and, as written above, receive calls by hearing the voice directly from the smartwatch without having to search for the smartphone.
Thanks to the Tiles integrated in Wear OS you can find functions more quickly and easily without having to lose yourself in the sub-menus. You will then be able to assess how far you are in training, check forecasts, heart rate and the latest news.
Also for sports people there is the integrated GPS in addition to the NFC technology supported by Google Play. Pre-installed there will be apps like Spotify and Noonlight as well as Cardiogram to keep the parameters related to the heart under control. The Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch is priced at $295.
