FreeSync, Curved screens and resolution up to 4K: The gaming display from LG

The Korean company presented at CES 2016 a number of new screens, among which the proposals with support for AMD FreeSync. Screens 21: 9 aspect ratio and resolutions up to 4K in the technical specifications.

In the course of 2015, we recorded a gradual spread of screens for gamers characterized by support of adaptive technology refresh, intended to give a better picture playback of 3D games, avoiding phenomena of stuttering.

Two technologies of this kind on the market, with NVIDIA G-Sync on the one hand and AMD FreeSync on the other to counteract. The first is proprietary in that it requires the use of a video card NVIDIA GeForce family in combination with screens that have been certified by the adoption of specific circuitry developed by NVIDIA. The second is the open type, developed by AMD starting with the VESA standard and available with a simple firmware update the screen operated by the manufacturer.

Thanks to his being an open standard, and does not require an additional charge to the internal components, the standard FreeSync by AMD is experiencing a remarkable expansion of the market and the support from a growing number of manufacturers of screens.

LG showed at CES 2016 in Las Vegas a couple of screens compatible with this technology, is characterized by a very sophisticated design that mirrors that of some series of TVs from the Korean company is unique technical solutions.

The screen LG 34UC98 is undoubtedly the most interesting from the point of view of technological contents. Characterized by a diagonal of 34 inches, with ratio of 21:9 between the sides and resolution of 3,440×1,440 pixels, is equipped with technology support FreeSync and a curvature that facilitates the immersion inside of the game action. Precisely for this reason it is a screen more suitable for gamers than for the professional user, which ceteris specifications tend to prefer a flat-panel screen.

LG FreeSync Curved

A second proposal LG with technology support FreeSync is the model 27UD68 solution with a diagonal of 27 inches and flat panel characterized by the maximum resolution of 3,840×2,160 pixels and the panel with IPS technology. LG has not provided the indication of what is the technical characteristic more interesting for the panels FreeSync. That is the frequencies of maximum and minimum refresh supported.

LG FreeSync Flat

And in any case, it is reported as the spread of technology that is readily FreeSync is continuing, with panels that grow in size offering technical features that are unique, such as the resolution of 4K or the curved panel combined ratio of 21:9, so further extend the ecosystem paired with this technology.

For gamers in general availability solutions adaptive refresh is a very attractive option, since it allows to improve their gaming experience, especially when the video settings are choices that do not provide a value for a frames per second is always high and run the risk of a trend jerky in more complex scenes.
