Google Maps: ” mixed ” routes, bikes and more ready to be added

Arriving in more than 30 countries the new Maps functions that integrate bike routes and the calculation of mixed routes that highlight the various public services offered by the city, including ridesharing.

Google Maps is one of the most-used navigation services, but there were still no options to make it more complete. In these weeks, the Mountain View company will release a new update that includes the addition of bicycle routes, the calculation of mixed routes and the possible addition of ridesharing services available in the city.

These new functions will give the user the possibility to view all the options available to cover the entered section. Previously the Google service offered, for the first and last stretch of the road, a walking route before arriving at the public service stop needed for the selected route; Now those stretches of road will have more possibilities: bike ride or with a possible ridesharing service.

Google Maps Mixed Mode

This ” Mixed Mode ” will list in the ” Transit ” tab the information needed to reach the selected location, offering the public services provided by the city as the main options. All the different modes adds will re-modulate the various travel times, and Google will implement all this with these precautions:

  • Cost of travel, tickets and rates to be paid will be included.
  • Waiting time
  • Traffic in the requested section.
  • It will be possible to choose the preferred ride sharing provider.
  • In the case of the bike route, Google will choose bespoke routes for cyclists.

This feature will be implemented in the coming weeks on Google Maps for Android and iOS in 30 countries, but will also be available in other countries later. We do not know if Italy will be among the first countries.
