The Mountain View company decides to jump into the middle range of smartphones or the one where the devices cost up to $500. It does wanting to propose two devices with peculiarities such as the top of the range camera and much more. Here are the technical specifications of the two newcomers.

Google makes the new Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. These are two new smartphones that for the first time enrich the company’s top of the line offering itself as a viable alternative to the mid-market segment.

Two devices that have top-of-the-range features in the operating system but also in the main a camera, but going to save money on other components such as the processor or materials which, might not discourage users given the official prices. Google Pixel 3a will cost $399 while the largest Google Pixel 3a XL will be offered at $479. Let’s look at the technical specifications.

Google Pixel 3a and 3a XL: The technical specifications

Google decides to focus on the mid-market segment and to do so with a certain difference compared to the others. Here is the company intends to stand out and to focus immediately on the two devices, first of all, starting from design.

The two Pixel 3a and 3a XL are practically identical to the Pixels 3 and 3 XL presented in October by the Mountain View company. The difference? The materials. Here there is no glass and aluminum for the back cover but a unibody polycarbonate body capable of giving a certain charm to the smartphone and making it really poor, indeed.

The detail is at its best and Google tries to make high-level feedback possible with a matte texture placed above the back cover just like it did with the top-of-the-range Pixels. The result is a light phone but at the same time made to perfection with a unique charm.

Present a sensor for the fingerprints at the rear almost disappeared given the really minimal profile, so a colored button for switching on and a single-volume rocker positioned usually below that of on/off.

The two smartphones differ mainly in display and size. Here the smaller Pixel 3a has a 5.6-inch gOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution in 18: 9 and 441PPI. The largest Pixel 3a XL instead has a 6-inch always gOLED and always Full HD+ in 18: 9 with 401PPI. No notch and no borderless panel but two frames (upper and lower) which in any case do not cause so much discomfort in use.

In the lower part, there is a double breaker for the loudspeaker and the microphone while in the center, there is a USB Type-C Gen 2.0 port that allows fast charging thanks to the included 18W charger. At the top, there is also the hole for the 3.5 mm jack for headphones.

Google Pixel 3rd and 3rd XL: What a camera?

As far as the camera is concerned, Google has decided to force the hand and to offer users a flagship of these two Pixels. The company places a prestigious 12.2 MP sensor (f/1.8 with Dual Pixel) practically similar to that of the top of the range.

Single but usually with a very rich algorithm created by the company that makes important shots possible even in extreme situations such as darkness. Previously, there is a single 8MP camera with f/2.0 focal length and still capable of excellent results thanks to the Artificial Intelligence created by Google.

In this case all the shooting modes present on the Pixels 3 and 3 XL have also been brought into this medium range. Here, users will find the various ” Night Shot ” modes, which illuminate daylight shots with low brightness, then the ” Best Shot ” feature which automatically suggests the best shot between the different sequences of photos taken on the same scene before and after the original one.

But also ” High-Definition Zoom ” which is nothing but Google’s software response to the absence of a telephoto sensor instead present in other dual cam devices. Then the ” Portrait ” feature ready to blur the shots like a real SLR.

Do not forget the arrival of Time Lapse that Google introduces with these new medium range. Here you will have the opportunity to capture the entire phases of a sunset in a few seconds of video then sharing them with your friends. Time Lapse records a video capturing from 6 frames per second to a frame every 4 seconds, automatically creating the effect of an accelerated video at 30 frames per second.

To differentiate the two Pixels 3a and 3a XL, there is also the battery: here for the smallest, you will have to opt for a 3,000 mAh battery while for the XL version you will have at least 3,700 mAh available. All these thanks to the adaptive algorithm but also to an optimized operating system which Android 9.0 Pie will allow users to get more than a day of autonomy.
