Here is the new Nokia 2.3: Affordable price, dual cameras and Android 10 ready

Price really accessible to everyone is that of the new Nokia 2.3, which based on the previous model brings interesting features on the range below $150. Starting with the camera, which now doubles and provides a dual 13Mp / 2Mp module to add depth map to shots and manage blur.

HMD Global is the Finnish-based company which has taken the legacy of the Nokia brand in the smartphone sector. HMD’s strategy is that of maximizing the democratization of smartphones and the company has focused heavily on low-end and mid-range terminals to return to putting ‘a Nokia in everyone’s hands.

The strategy has proven to be spot on and has brought the Nokia brand back to fifth place overall in the rankings of smartphone sales, but above all it sees it excel in the category of feature phones, a type of terminals that is still among the best sellers in the markets with the lowest income and in developing countries.

Less successful were the episodes in the top of the range segment, with a product such as Nokia 9 PureView, which presented itself as a game changer in the camera phone sector, but which had to face too many problems to be able to truly spoil the cards on the table.

Alberto Matrone, vice president of HMD Global and head of the European market, and Alberto Colombo, Italian country manager, talked about this strategy on the occasion of the recent launch of Nokia 2.3 and gave some anticipation about the future, which will see Nokia branded mobile phones continue on path of democratization of technology, including 5G. During 2020, a Nokia 5G smartphone can be expected, which, unlike many others, will be offered at a more affordable price.

Price really accessible to everyone is that of the new Nokia 2.3, which based on the previous model brings interesting features on the range below $150. The presentation of Nokia 2.2 had taken place only last June, but in an increasingly competitive market HMD Global has decided to play a new card.

The new Nokia 2.3 is positioned slightly higher than its brother, with a list of $129, but makes a leap forward from the point of view of the technical characteristics. Starting from the camera, which now doubles and provides a dual 13Mp/2Mp module to add the depth map to the shots and manage the blur, as happens in Portrait Mode, which has the particularity of being able to creatively manage the bokeh, giving shapes (like hearts and butterflies) to the out of focus points of light.

The shooting app also evolves, which now adds the ” Recommended Shot ” functionality: in order not to miss the perfect shot during faster actions, the smartphone uses an image buffer before and after pressing the shutter button and uses advanced algorithms (defined as artificial intelligence, but this could be discussed) to offer the user the best ones.

The front camera offers 5 megapixels of resolution and provides unlocking of the terminal with biometric facial recognition, which promises not to be deceived by a simple photo.

The mobile phone allows quick access to Google Assistant, thanks to a dedicated button. The HMD Global strategy has among its strengths that of proposing the stock version of Android and participation in the Android One program, which has the winning feature of being able to bring all updates, functionality and security, of functionality and security, on its terminals.

Nokia 2.3 is Android 10 ready and offers two years of OS updates and three years of monthly security updates, unlike many other medium and low-end Android terminals, often launched and left to their fate on the OS version with which they came on the market.

Nokia 2.3 offers 6.2″ 19:9 HD+ screen: it is an IPS LCD display with 1,520×720 pixel resolution. The phone is based on the Mediatek MT6761 Helio A22 platform with Quad-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and PowerVR GE8320 GPU with 2GB of RAM and 32GB storage memory.

The 4,000 mAh battery, thanks to the adaptive use technologies integrated in the operating system, promises an autonomy of two complete days.
