inFAMOUS: Second Son – Review

I remember when fitted with a PlayStation 1, I sat there with my controller connected with wire, to play fun titles, but lacking a twisted plot and engaging. Today, with the PlayStation 4 resting on the shelf usual, I find myself in the hands of a wireless DualShock 4 and an incredible game, which Sony and Sucker Punch have given us the opportunity to try a preview. We’re talking of course about inFAMOUS: Second Son.

Structuring this review in such a way as not to anticipate too much about the plot, which of course, you’ll have to find you purchasing the game.

Let’s start talking by the principal of the video game, the gameplay. inFAMOUS: Second Son takes full advantage of all the features of the PlayStation 4. Finally, I find sensible use of the Touchpad. We must use in order to complete certain actions, such as opening doors, suck smoke, etc…. Even the speakers placed on the new controller makes the adventure much more fascinating.

Most of the sounds come out of the TV but the ones more details, such as the ringing of the phone, will be dumped out of the controller, giving a truly unique and engaging. These are small details, mind you, but without them, the game would not provide the same entertainment experience.

The game is obviously an evolution of the other two chapters. We find different characters, different animations, but the purpose is always the same, or complete various missions come to defeat the ” boss ” of the moment.

There is also a new mechanism of absorption and evolution of powers :

  • New powers – Second Son have new powers of the protagonist, like the ability to climb on top of the buildings taking advantage of the electrical conduits or the ability to use some sort of teleportation, turning into smoke, to move quickly during the fighting with the agents of DUP.
  • Evolution of powers – in the first two chapters, the only way to acquire new powers was to recharge energy from power stations underground, restoring electricity to the neighborhood above. This made it possible to ” learn ” new powers, which then evolved over time through a system of ” experience points. ” In Second, Son is possible to absorb the powers of any other conduit encountered during the game.
  • Sourcing of energy – you can recharge their electric energy-absorbing element’s neon scattered around the city and absorb the smoke from the chimneys above the roof or the car in flames following an explosion.

The plot is the true highlight of inFAMOUS: Second Son. I was involved from the outset, including flashbacks and anticipations of the future, mysteries and anything bad jokes. The dialogues are then all dubbed, with subtitles in case you’re accustomed to reading what the protagonists of the game say. The protagonist of the game is Delsin Rowe, a rebellious 24-year-old Seattle native, who lives in the shadow of his brother Reggie, a police officer. Of sin turns out unexpectedly to have superhuman powers, powers that will put you in serious danger.

Below we offer a brief summary of the plot (via Sony). Do not worry, no spoilers.

The Seattle told by this third installment of the saga sees the people oppressed by a totalitarian government that keeps all under the control of the police. Some people, called conduits, have special powers, but are accused of (bio) terrorism and are persecuted by the Department of Unified Protection (DUP). When contact with a conduit awakened the hidden powers of Delsin, everything changes: it will be forced to flee and fight for its survival.

The graphics is amazing. When there are half of the dialogues of course we are dealing with a graphic rendition on the edge of realism. What surprised me most is the attention to detail during the actual game. The large geographical area at our disposal is fully explorable. Every detail, every shadow, every character is studied in detail.

Obviously, it is not the graphic that makes an important game, but when the plot seems promising a detailed visual impact cannot make it all that much more enjoyable. It should be noted then the setting. The game is set in a real city, Seattle, reproduced in detail. The cities of the first two chapters were fictitious (more or less inspired by the city that actually exists): Empire City and New Marais.

inFAMOUS: Second Son will sell on stores, March 21, 2014. If you’ve played the previous two chapters, you absolutely cannot leave it to escape. It’s also a great way to test the potential of your new PlayStation 4.
