iPhone 11 Pro slower than iPhone XS in an online video: iOS 13 blame?

The new iPhones lose the comparison with the old on a video published online. Which is at least atypical, considering the renewed hardware. The fault could be an iOS 13 not completely finished to the fullest.

The first reviews have already been released on the iPhone 11. Many praise the photographic sector, some instead highlight some instability of iOS 13. TheVerge‘s one, for example: focuses on both issues, and a new video appeared on the famous YouTube channel EverythingApplePro points out that the finishing work on the latest version of the operating system has not yet been completed.

The new iPhones use Apple A13 Bionic, which should be 20% faster than the predecessor, the device used in the test seems to be slightly slower than the iPhone XS.

The battle is in this case between iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone XS, and the rules are those of the traditional ” app launch speed test ” : in essence, you run a list of applications in rapid succession with both smartphones, keeping them in memory.

In the end, the same apps are re-run to see not only the speed of the device, but also the ability to keep as many items in memory. And to do this, the iPhone XS was about 30 seconds faster than its successor, who should have won on paper.

In the test, there is also iPhone X: the first execution of the app sees iPhone 11 Pro win for about 1 second on the iPhone XS, and significantly on the iPhone X. At the end of the second round is instead iPhone XS to win, ending the test in 5 minutes and 21 seconds, while iPhone 11 Pro takes 5 minutes and 49 seconds. iPhone X ends with a certain distance: 7 minutes and 27 seconds for the oldest of the proven by iPhone.

In the test, iPhone XS managed to keep a greater number of applications in memory than the iPhone 11 Pro, despite the same amount of RAM (4GB). How did you do it? The answer is currently not very clear, but the doubts are all on iOS 13 which on 11 Pro might not be finished enough and could present some bugs too.

It is also probable that the new iPhone 11 Camera app (used in the test and not carried on older models) needs more resources, and thus resulted in the closure of a higher number of apps in background.

It should also be noted, as usual, that a test of this type does not reveal the real performance of the device, but only the speed in a very specific area. It is likely that Apple will improve iOS 13 with upcoming releases, and already the release of iOS 13.1 scheduled for this week should correct a long series of bugs still open with the original release.
