JBL J55i – headphones complete and balanced sound

We return to talking about headphones with a very concerned made by JBL. The model is called J55i and supra aural headphones with controls for smartphones. They are available in different colors: gray, black and white / orange, we decided to test the most eccentric of the three. The building is made of plastic with a metal insert on top of that reinforces the bow.

They do not seem particularly robust in some joints but proved reliable in use, do not think about doing an excessive delicacy. They have an average weight of 190 grams. and are particularly suitable for mobility given the small size of the halls and the ability to recline to 180° inwards. Included in the scope is also a soft carrying pouch.

The headband can be extended to 9 shots per side, coming to comfortably fit even to those who have an important head. At the top of a soft padding rests on the head to provide greater stability and ergonomics.

The pavilion is a supra aural, comfortable but small denominations, so just covers the ears and the isolation was very good: listening to music outside distractions are minimized.

On the left side, you insert the flat cable anti-kinking, 1.3 meters long, which is added to a controller with three buttons. Perfectly compatible with iPhone lets you control the volume and playback. Inside there is also a MEMS microphone to make phone calls safely with a good level of audience for our party. The controller on the cable is special about the model JBL J55i but want to keep an eye on the model J55 whose only difference is the absence of the buttons / microphone and costs almost half.

JBL J55i - Orange Color

A sound level that we have the 40mm driver during our test behaved well. Listening has a good sense of three-dimensionality and spatial effectively; the balance between low, mid and treble is very balanced. We did not a very pronounced rhythm that dominates the voices and strings, which are sufficiently precise and sharp.

JBL J55i - Zoom

At maximum volume the bass are holding up well, and you can feel just a little distortion on average more acute, but only with very driven and MP3 tracks, where the compression does not help. More generally, the dynamics and sensitivity were average for the price range and thanks to a good balance headphones fared well with many different musical genres. Perhaps the only thing that’s missing is a bit more depth and a more pronounced character.

JBL J55i – Conclusion

JBL J55i - Black Color

Okay, maybe this product is particularly eccentric and may not meet everyone’s taste, but remember that there are also models in gray and black. In all cases, the aesthetics remains particularly casual and plasticky, with a look not properly professional. After all, even this headphones we liked, but we were amazed.

The JBL J55i are complete, thanks to the controllers and the microphone, and they sound pretty good, but do not reach for excellence. The vote wisely is rated 4 stars, recommended for those who want to good music with their smartphone and do not want to go unnoticed.
