Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Foldable: the folding PC will hit the market in 2020

The first folding PC almost ready for release, so much so that its launch is expected as early as the second half of 2020. What’s missing? The software is not yet perfectly optimized for this new device.

On May 14, 2019, during the Accelerate conference in Florida, Levono showed a new ThinkPad series computer, the first in the world with a flexible display. ThinkPad X1 Foldable is a new idea of the Chinese multinational, designed for a tablet, PC or book that allows you to cover different purposes.

At the Canalys Channels Forum, held last week, Lenovo revealed the launch times for its ThinkPad X1 Foldable: let’s talk about the second half of 2020.

Milanka Muecke, director of global Lenovo commercial communications, talked about this new folding PC, describing it as a PC for all purposes that fits in the palm of your hand:

I have it right here and you can have it in your bag. It looks like a leather-bound notebook that you can carry around with you all day, but it’s a high-performance PC that fits the palm of your hand.

Speaking of power, the ThinkPad X1 Foldable will mount an Intel socket with the classic Microsoft Windows on board, which will have to adapt to this new format, making a wide variety of software compatible to better manage the new device. Lenovo will adopt a 13.3-inch OLED screen with a ” 2K ” resolution that can be folded back on itself, making it transportable even in a small bag.

Although the period has been confirmed, ie the second half of 2020, it is not known which month is most likely to host this innovation in the notebook world. In June, we remember that the Computex will be held, which could be a good springboard for the Chinese company.

Lenovo says that from a hardware point of view, the product is ready, but the software is still a bit immature and needs some corrections:

The shipment will probably start in the second quarter of next year. […] The hardware is ready, but we still have to solve some things from the point of view of the software, and this does not depend on us 100%.

The producers of the various software must optimize ThinkPad X1 Foldable and one of the companies called for the greatest effort is Microsoft. Gianfranco Lanci, Lenovo executive, does not expect the ThinkPad X1 with a folding display to be a bestseller right from the launch, and one of the main causes could be the price.

ThinkPad X1 Foldable will certainly come up against the most popular iPad or other tablet of the Android counterpart and with Surface Neo coming soon. The early launch of the product could still bring good light to the company and the new line, ready to change the concept of notebook.
