Lexar Professional Workflow DD512 512GB: Review

The Lexar Professional Workflow DD512 512GB is a memory unit external SSD with USB 3.0 and compact size, measures 75 x 60 x 22 mm and weighs only 61 grams. The Drive has a matte black finish in the central and glossy on the front and back.

At the top is clearly visible in the Lexar logo embossing, while the frontal area is occupied by five white LEDs, which are useful to check the remaining capacity (each LED indicates 20% of available space).

On the right, there is a further LED, this time in blue, which indicates the power and activity on memory.

On the back, we find the USB 3.0 Type B, while the bottom has a label with the specifications in addition to the classic slip rubber ring, common to many devices Lexar, useful for keeping balance the drive on the desktop.

The Lexar Professional Workflow DD512 comes preformatted in ExFat, a file system that overcomes the limitations of traditional storage FAT32 as it allows you to store even single files larger than 4GB and more than 1,000 files per folder. Both Windows (XP SP3) that Mac OS X (version 10.6.5) are fully compatible in reading and writing. In all cases, it can also be formatted in HFS if you intend to use it only on the Mac.

The data declared by the speed and accelerations are 450 MB/s read and 245 MB/s write. In our test conducted with a Retina MacBook Pro (late 2013) and with the software BlackMagic Disk speed test we approached very, achieving a speed of 423 MB/s read and 236 MB/s write. Leaving aside the benchmark, in actual use, I moved a folder of 62 GB employing just under 6 minutes, a really good result.
