LG 18-inch display can be rolled up on display at CES 2016

The Korean company will show in Las Vegas a prototype rollable display that could pave the way to the realization of futuristic portable devices that can be put as a daily paper.

LG Display is ready to show a prototype 18-inch screen that can be rolled up like a sheet of paper: the public will be able to admire at the Consumer-Electronics Show held in Las Vegas this week.

The company had already talked about this technology in 2014 and last year had brought a first prototype at CES always kept hidden but the mass. When it was announced for the first-time LG said that it was just an OLED panel of 3 cm diagonal and a resolution of 1,200×810 pixels.

It is not known, in addition to the diagonal, which things have changed in the past: more information will be available in the coming days, when LG will unveil the particular display.

In the past, other companies in the industry such as Sony, Samsung, Sharp showed something like that, the same as LG seems to believe, offer a vision of a world populated by rollable or foldable portable objects, such as a newspaper reader digital. It can roll up or store just as you can with the paper counterpart.

But LG has in Serbia many other innovations at CES regarding the world of display: on display, there will be a 55-inch OLED television extremely thin (something thick ” paper-thin “), another 55-inch screen capable of show different images on each side, one 25-inch curved LCD screen for the automotive industry and a 10.3-inch touchscreen capable of operating even when wearing gloves.
