Microsoft announces Surface Hub 2

The second generation of Surface Hub device uses a 50.5-inch diagonal 4K+ screen that can be added to 3 and is designed to increase the productivity of the work teams.

Microsoft has announced a second generation of Surface Hub, the family of screens that the American company makes available for meeting rooms and to boost productivity in the workplace. Surface Hub 2 opts for a single dimension against the two versions of the first generation of product, with a diagonal of 50.5 inches (the two previous models were 55 and 84 inches).

The display has 4K+ resolution with a 3:2 ratio between the two sides, borrowed from what was implemented with the other devices of the Surface family now on the market. Surface Hub 2 can be rotated in both directions, positioned horizontally as vertically depending on the specific user’s needs.

It is also possible to combine up to 4 screens with each other, both horizontally and vertically, so that everyone can show contents independently or play a video on all 4. A webcam with 4K resolution is connected to Surface Hub 2, connected via USB Type C connector.

Microsoft offers Surface Hub 2 in combination with a wheel support developed by Steelcase, thus facilitating the movement of Surface Hub 2 within the workplace. Further details about this have been published by the company in its official blog.

At present, Microsoft has not announced a price for Surface Hub 2, but it is likely that it will not be far from the $9,000 required for the 55-inch version of Surface Hub. On the other hand, Google’s Jamboard is offered at $5,000 and will presumably be closer to the latter value that Microsoft will place Surface Hub 2. In any case, we will have to wait for a little longer, as deliveries will only start in 2019.
