Microsoft extends Windows 7 support to all business systems for a fee

The American company opens extended support for updates and security patches for all Windows 7 OS-based systems of business customers, regardless of size. All until 2023.

Starting from January 14, 2020, Microsoft will stop extended support for its Windows 7 operating system. Those who continue to use it will no longer be able to benefit from free security updates as well as any updates to the operating system.

Microsoft had confirmed that it wanted to provide the Windows 7 Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Professional and Enterprise customers with operating system licenses for volume purchase, for a fee. The company announced its intention to extend the service to all its business customers regardless of size.

The service can be purchased starting December 1 and will allow all business customers of the company who want to continue using the Windows 7 operating system in their systems, or who simply cannot afford to upgrade it with Windows 10.

The service will be purchased through the CSP program, cloud solution provider, from Microsoft; the process will be for a single device, with a price that will tend to increase year after year to entice migration to more recent operating systems. The deadline will be January 2023, a period in which OS updates and security patches will no longer be provided. The cost as mentioned is variable, starting from a minimum of 50 dollars for the first year up to 200 dollars for the third year for a single system.

Windows 7 continues to maintain a significant presence in production systems, with a market share that is still 28% in light of data published by NetMarketShare.
