Mozilla – The new smartphone reference for Firefox OS

Mozilla has announced that Flame, smartphones T2Mobile operator, will be the new reference device that allowed you to design, develop and test the system open source. The smartphone in question is in line with other economic devices already seen, mainly designed for developing countries. Equipped with a screen of 4.5 ” with a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels, a dual-core Snapdragon processor at 1.2 GHz, up to 1GB RAM, 8GB of expandable memory with Micro SD, incorporates two cameras (2 and 5 megapixel) and is compatible with NFC technology. It will have a list price of about 130 euro and deliveries of the first models will start in June.

Firefox OS was recently updated. The update includes new features, including support for Dual-SIM Dual-Standby (DSDS) which allows you to manage two separate SIM, new features for the camera, easy access to the music player and the ability to create collections of smart applications. Now the continuous autofocus is supported (depends on the compatibility of the device) and the flash. Galleries in the app are possible to sort by month and displaying data to show how the shooting date, file type and size.

Other improvements concern the multimedia applications, including access to music player controls in the notification bar or screen locked. The app for the FM radio can also be activated via the phone’s speaker.

With regard to the sales figures, it is not clear on how many devices are currently present Firefox OS: Mozilla has not provided official data. The operator Telefonica in October last year spoke to a market share of 12% in Venezuela and more than 8% in Colombia. The numbers are in any case very low on a global level, so as not to appear either between the data of the statistics from Gartner, IDC and other companies that deal in research and analysis in the field of Information Technology.
