MSI MAG342CQR, the first 1000R curved gaming monitor
Debut for the new MAG342CQR at the CES in Las Vegas, which MSI claims to be the first curved gaming monitor with a 1000R radius. Here is what we know for now of this new, particular product, expected in a few months.
There are several things to say about this decidedly interesting product, which MSI indicates with MAG342CQR. Let’s start from the plate values, to be taken with the benefit of the doubt, missing the official marketing for a few months. We are faced with a 31.5-inch diagonal panel (not a 34-inch one as indicated elsewhere and as the abbreviation would suggest), at least as indicated in the technical data sheet exposed to the official MSI presentation.
The resolution is 3,440×1,440 pixels, 21:9 ratio, and the technology used VA (Super PVA, in the technical data sheet, Quantum Dot), also because with IPS, it would not be possible to go up to a radius of 1000R. Yes, because this is the big news, a first in the world of gaming displays. Seen live, the curvature of this monitor is very striking but convincing, if positioned at the ideal distance, or approximately within one meter.
If we think about it, players rarely find themselves at a greater distance than this, which is why MSI believes that there are different advantages for a gamer not only in terms of involvement but also in terms of playability. Let us explain what was said to us at the conference.
The involvement in the gaming scene with such an enveloping screen would have positive consequences in the reaction time, lowering it by a good 30% compared to what is observed with a 1800R with the same scene.
It is clear data, of course, that we have no way of verifying. Net of this, the monitor really looks like something new, as well as interesting in terms of technical choices. We know that the refresh rate will be 144Hz, all using a panel produced by Samsung.
Unfortunately, we do not know anything about the price at which it will be sold, also because marketing is still missing a few months. We will obviously try to get more information about it.
