MSI Vigor GK50: Convenient mechanical keyboard with low profile switch
MSI Vigor GK50 Low Profile is a very interesting mechanical keyboard, apart from the switches it equips. We explain to you why.
MSI Vigor GK50 Low Profile is a mechanical keyboard based on white Kailh switches, which correspond to a personalization of the Cherry MX Blue, making use of the sound click for better feedback. Attention to the ” low profile ” nature of these switches: this is only 34 mm high switches, which allow MSI to give an aggressive aesthetic to this keyboard and to provide reactive and precise keys, with reduced sliding distance almost as for the keyboard of a laptop.
These are switches that can be seen as a middle ground between traditional MX Speed and MX Blue, with running distances up to the point of implementation and overall particularly reduced. At the same time, the pressure resistance is very low, as happens with the MX Red.
MSI wanted to make available to players a keyboard that did not cost much, but at the same time was reactive and equipped with auditory feedback on pressure, particularly appreciated by the players. The noise emitted corresponds to affirmative tactile feedback, which may be pleasing to a certain type of user.
Even if it is a customization of traditional Kailh, these switches confirm the strengths of the family. They have a body large enough to maintain stability regardless of whether the pressure is applied to the center or the side. The key cover, consequently, does not swing even in the case of inaccurate pressures applied laterally.
These switches are then characterized by a design that is called ” floating, “that is, they leave a space between the key cover and the keyboard panel for aesthetic purposes.
The backlight can thus filter out, creating an aggressive effect. Available to users, there are also hotkeys that allow you to adjust the volume, manage multimedia content, and start the MSI Afterburner diagnostic software (button Dragone + ” F1 ” ) in an instant.
Of course, switches aren’t the only element on this keyboard that deserves attention. Vigor GK50 is equipped with an upper panel with a brushed aluminum finish that guarantees robustness without sacrificing the aesthetic component.
On the right side, near the directional arrows, the typical MSI logo that reproduces a dragon makes the keyboard design attractive. Also, it offers complete RGB lighting that can be customized based on a single button, customized key covers, and braided USB cable.
The cable length is 1.8 meters, while the connector is gold plated. The dimensions of the product are 435 x 141 x 34 millimeters, and its weight is approximately 700 grams. In terms of specifications, in short, the MSI Vigor GK50 can compete with any mechanical keyboard for players.
As for the key covers, we find a very particular physiognomy with diagonally cut corners. It is a shape quite distant from the usual, innovative, and pleasing to the eye, but which at the same time does not fit with the previous key covers. In the event of a malfunction or loss of a key cover, it will not be immediate to replace it.
MSI Vigor GK50 can be used and configured without software. Still, at the same time, it supports Dragon Center, which allows you to adjust the lighting effects, macros with great skill, and synchronize the settings between all the supported peripherals. Among the backlight effects, we found the ability to turn on only the keys dedicated to gameplay functional, starting with the classic ” WASD. ”
The Mystic Light support allows you to control the keyboard through key combinations without resorting to the software. All adjustments are made by pressing the button with the Dragon. In conjunction with ” INS “it allows you to control the LED lighting mode, by switching between the Presets Overlap, Fixed, Intermittent, Wave, Radar, Vortex, Horizon, Ripple, Reactive and customized.
With a subsequent pressure, the backlight can be completely turned off. Dragone and ” HOME ” or ” END ” respectively allow you to increase and decrease the speed of the lighting effect. You can also increase or decrease the brightness of the effect or switch quickly from one color to another, as well as invert its animation from right to left or vice versa.
The surface underneath the keyboard also ensures stability, so that the keyboard itself does not slip away during the most hectic gaming sessions. Five rubber parts guarantee adherence to the support surface. The feet hold the keyboard in an elevated position and are sufficiently large.
Ultimately, MSI Vigor GK50 Low Profile presents interesting and innovative solutions from different points of view. Aesthetically it is pleasant, and the backlight is very customizable to find the best compromise concerning your needs. The switches are excellent for both gaming and typing, especially for those used to typing on the laptop.
They are noisy like the MX Blue, and this can be pros or cons depending on personal habits, and in any case, very precise and rewarding under pressure. With a particularly short running distance, the implementation point is quickly reached, and this goes very well with competitive gaming. With those games, for example, I think of MOBA, where you have to act frequently on the keyboard.
