New Bios for the Intel Core i9-9900KS processor, the first always at 5 GHz
The debut of the Intel Core i9-9900KS CPU is approaching, the first at 5 GHz fixed for all cores even at full load. Motherboard manufacturers meanwhile update the compatibility bios.
The official debut of the Intel Core i9-9900KS processor is approaching, a special version featuring a fixed maximum clock frequency of 5 GHz for all 8 cores that are integrated into it. This model incorporates the same specifications as the Core i9-9900K model now on sale, with the difference represented solely by the ability to operate stably by default at 5 GHz clock with all cores occupied at 100%, against a value of 4.7 GHz for the Core i9-9900K model.
The production technology with which this processor is built remains that of 14 nanometers, as is the underlying architecture. The Core i9-9900KS CPU is obtained from Intel through a binning process, that is to say, the selection of the best die able to operate stably at the clock frequency of 5 GHz.
The debut is expected for the month of October so it is not surprising to see motherboard manufacturers start updating the bios of their boards to integrate full support also to this processor. This is the case of ASRock and ASUS, which for some models already make updated bios available on their websites. MSI and Gigabyte are destined to follow shortly.
We report how the new bios are currently supplied only for motherboards with Intel Z390 chipsets of higher range, typically equipped with overdimensioned power supply circuitry. Easy to imagine that to be able to operate steadily at 5 GHz clock the new Intel CPU will require the combination with high-quality motherboards, built with power circuitry appropriately sized and equipped with an adequate cooling system.
