New Intel Xeon E processors, now with 6 core and Coffee Lake architecture

Intel updates its range of Xeon E processors for entry level workstations, re-proposing the Coffee Lake architecture. 6 and 4 core versions, for LGA1151 socket.

Today Intel announces a new family of Xeon processors with Xeon E models. These are proposals addressed to the growing segment of entry level workstations, based on single-socket architecture with 14-nanometer production technology.

Observing the technical specifications it is clear how these processors share the same Coffee Lake architecture of the Intel Core proposals for desktop systems: we also see it from the connection socket with the motherboard, which remains the LGA 1151. The following table shows the versions of processor announced today by Intel, with the corresponding technical specifications.

Intel Xeon Inside

Processor Clock Turbo Core Threads GPU Cache TDP Price
Xeon E-2186G 3.8GHz 4,7GHz 66 12 UHD630 12MB 95W $ 450
Xeon E-2176G 3,7GHz 4,7GHz 6 12 UHD630 12MB 80W $ 362
Xeon E-2174G 3.8GHz 4,7GHz 4 8 UHD630 8MB 71W $ 328
Xeon E-2146G 3.5GHz 4,5GHz 6 12 UHD630 12MB 80W $ 322
Xeon E-2144G 3.6 GHz 4,5GHz 4 8 UHD630 8MB 71W $ 272
Xeon E-2136 3,3GHz 4,5GHz 6 12 12MB 80W $ 284
Xeon E-2134 3.5GHz 4,5GHz 4 8 8MB 71W $ 250
Xeon E-2126G 3,3GHz 4,5GHz 6 6 UHD630 12MB 80W $ 255
Xeon E-2124G 3,4GHz 4,5GHz 4 4 UHD630 8MB 71W $ 213
Xeon E-2124 3,3GHz 4,3GHz 4 4 8MB 71W $ 193

We note how the processors are proposed in a 4 and 6 core version, some of which are based on HyperThreading technology that double the number of cores available. From the clock frequencies, we find many similarities with the versions of Intel Core i7, Core i5 and Core i3 available on the market.

We also note that most of these processors are equipped with an integrated GPU, based on Intel UHD630 architecture: this component is useful when you want to configure a workstation of compact size that does not require a dedicated video card.

These processors are joined, in the range of Intel proposals for professional systems, Xeon W models for performance workstations and that Xeon Platinum for the most complex and powerful solutions. Intel also offers solutions specifically developed for mobile workstations: we talk about the CPUs of the Xeon E-2100M family, always based on Coffee Lake architecture and borrowed for technical features from the Core solutions for notebook systems.
