NVIDIA announces Shield TV 2019 with Tegra X1+ processor

Shield TV is renewed and divided into two models: the standard, with a tube-shaped chassis, and the Pro, aesthetically similar to the NVIDIA system based on the last generation Android TV platform.

The two new Shield models, which have the official name of Shield TV and Shield TV Pro, are both characterized by the Tegra X1+ processor, which offers up to 25% more performance than its predecessor. Both new Shields support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Shield TV and Shield TV Pro differ aesthetically, with the first having an innovative tube-shaped chassis. NVIDIA designers thought so that it can integrate with or behind entertainment devices. It is also equipped with Gigabit Ethernet and dual-band Wi-Fi.

NVIDIA Shield TV Pro is based on the design of the previous generation and is equipped with additional memory and storage capacity, as well as two USB ports for running a Plex Media Server and connecting high-capacity hard drives or others USB devices.

Both use the same remote control, powered by two AAA batteries, with backlit buttons, an integrated remote locator and a microphone for voice search.

Shield, as an Android TV device, allows access to a vast catalog of films, applications and video games. Google Assistant allows users to quickly access entertainment, control smart devices and get voice responses on the a screen. Shield now supports ” routines ” – with one command, Google assistant will complete several tasks.

In addition to the integrated connectivity of Google Assistant and Amazon Echo, the new NVIDIA Shield devices use an AI upscaler to bring HD content to life. Trained on a deep neural network, the upscaler allows SHIELD owners to watch 720p and 1080p content in 4K.

NVIDIA Shield supports cloud gaming, local streaming and advanced native games. NVIDIA Shield users can access the beta of GeForce NOW, the cloud gaming service managed by NVIDIA itself.
