Oracle and VMware form an alliance to simplify customer migration to the Cloud

Thanks to the partnership, customers will be able to implement hybrid cloud strategies by running VMware Cloud Foundation within the Oracle Cloud infrastructure and migrating VMware vSphere workloads to the Oracle Generation 2 cloud.

The agreement signed by VMware and Oracle is positive for VMware customers who want to migrate workloads to the cloud. Until now, those who relied on an implementation of VMware on-premise were forced to re-engineer the applications if they wanted to move to the Oracle cloud, while now the migration is much simpler: Oracle VMware Solutions allows you to move loads with extreme simplicity VMware work on the cloud.

VMware is pleased to announce that, for the first time, Oracle will officially offer technical support for Oracle products running on VMware. This is a benefit for customers ” – said Sanjay Poonen, Chief Operating Officer, Customer Operations at VMware – ” We are also pleased to welcome Oracle to the VMware Cloud Provider Program, which will enable us to migrate and manage workloads running on VMware Cloud Foundation in the Oracle Cloud infrastructure.

What advantages did the partnership between Oracle and VMware bring to customers?

The main difference compared to the past is the ease with which it is possible to increase the performance and security of their applications by switching to the pay-as-you-go model of the Oracle cloud. An approach that allows you to save on the cost of infrastructure without sacrificing the scalability of systems.

Customers will have total control over their environments, and will be able to choose which version of VMware to adopt and what patch policy and updates to apply. The main advantage, in any case, is the possibility of expanding your network even in other countries without having to set up your data centers.

VMware and Oracle Partnership

To better support customers during the migration to a hybrid cloud structure, Oracle has added new products to its portfolio :

  • SDDC solution (Software Defined Data Center) certified by VMware capable of supporting the vSAN, NSX, and vSphere features on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
  • An initial server cluster, which if necessary can be expanded easily.
  • Integration with other Oracle cloud solutions, such as Oracle Autonomous Database, Oracle Exadata, RAC, database as a service (DaaS).
  • Total visibility on its infrastructure (both on-premise and on the Oracle cloud) via VMware vCenter Server.

More and more customers are moving to the cloud, and everyone is looking for a superior VMware experience. We are excited that Oracle Cloud customers will be able to run VMware workloads in Oracle Cloud and maintain VMware access ” – said Don Johnson, Executive Vice President of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure – ” This is made possible by Layer 2 and our bare metal service. Customers will be able to maximize existing VMware investments, processes and tools while benefiting from Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Security and Performance “.
