Philips Smart TV: The 2018 range starts with 65 and 55-inch OLED models

With HDR 10+ technologies on selected models and the P5 image processor that independently manages five parameters that contribute to determine the image quality.

There are many innovations that TP Vision provides for the 2018 range of Philips TVs, including the P5 image processor, NanoLed technology, wide color gamut space gamut in the 8000 series and support, on selected models, HDR10+ technology. The latter, in particular is an evolution of previous HDR10 standard that introduces the Dynamic Tone Mapping so as to optimize contrast and color curves independently frame by frame.

The P5 processor, already used in Philips top range of last year, will now be used for a wide range of products, including the 7000 and 8000 LCD series, as well as all new OLED-based televisions. It is an image processor that has task of individually managing each of five parameters that contribute to determining the quality of image: source, sharpness, color, contrast and movement:

  • P5 Source Perfection : correction of noise and artifacts with passage of 8-bit images to 14-bit images.
  • P5 Perfect Sharpness Ultra Resolution: optimization of sources with a resolution lower than 4K.
  • P5 Perfect Contrast : contrast optimization with Micro Dimming Perfect technology that works on distinct parts of image.
  • P5 Perfect Color : color enhancement with 17-bit boosters for more vivid and natural tones.
  • P5 Perfect Natural : optimizes the fluidity and clarity of fast-moving Ultra HD images.

In addition, Google Assistant will be integrated on all Android TV Smart 2018 line: this means that you can interact with TV via voice commands to search for content, even on services such as Netflix or YouTube, to get news and information in real time but also to control other smart devices in the house, such as Philips’ Hue lighting systems.

The activation of Google Assistant is done by pressing a button on remote control, and a blue light will confirm the activation of function.

Google Assistant will be proposed initially (to date to be defined) in English, in the first half of the year, with subsequent availability in French, German, Italian and Dutch at the end of 2018. The company also intends to extend support to Google Assistant also to the 2017 range of their own Android TV TVs: at the moment, interested models are not yet known.

For all entry-level Smart TVs, the company has announced introduction of the Saphi Smart TV user interface, a quick and easy way to provide all streaming content and services for the Philips 2018 Smart TV series of 5000 series and 6000 based on Linux operating system.

Coming to the products, Philips will bring new models to the market for first part of this 2018, starting from 65-inch OLED 973 televisions, already previewed at IFA 2017, which integrates a 6.1W audio system inside base with six front-emitting speakers for mid and high frequencies and a Triple Ring rear speaker with integrated bass port for low tones. The basic sound offers the same audio performance, whether TV is placed on a plane, or in case of a wall installation.

The 973 series is based on Android M Smart TV. The 65-inch OLED TV 837 is instead of ” big brother ” of model 55POS9002 and thanks to peak luminance of 900 candles per square meter, together with management of P5 image processor.

It is able to exceed the standards for UHD certification Premium and HDR Perfect. Finally the Philips 803 OLED TV will be available in 55 and 65 inch versions. Also in this case we find UHD Premium and HDR Perfect certification, as well as the Android M Smart TV operating system.
