Red Hydrogen One, postponed to November the holographic smartphone

RED’s holographic smartphone will only be available in volumes at the beginning of November. To announce the umpteenth delay is the founder of the company.

RED Hydrogen One has represented for some time a real enigma in the panorama of Android smartphones. RED, moreover, is one of the most important names for professional cinematographic instrumentation, and its debut is mostly expected from the niche of users and professionals passionate about the sector. In reality, the smartphone seemed little more than a ” vaporware “, even though lately it has appeared in the hands of Marques Brownlee.

The continual delays of the ” holographic ” smartphone were also highlighted, and the last one is particularly recent. Hydrogen One was expected this summer. It seems that to receive it by September 11 will be only a few selected users: Houdini, this the code name of the device, will come in the hands of the first beta testers between August 31 and September 11th and the commercial release is expected for October 9th, but only for those who performed the pre-order.

According to the latest information on the RED smartphone, its general availability is scheduled for November 2nd in the USA for AT&T and Verizon operators. But the founder of RED, Jim Jannard, said he took these dates with due caution as they could further slip. The delay seems to be due to some changes imposed by the FCC, without which the Commission could not approve the device.

At the beginning, there will be a single variant with a black and gray aluminum body, while the exclusive model with titanium body will not be delivered before next year, and only in limited quantities. The price remains of 1,295 dollars, now the praxis for a slightly more exclusive top of the range, but last year when the smartphone was announced it seemed like a huge thing.

Among the innovations of the RED smartphone there is obviously the holographic display, with a resolution of 2,560×1,440 pixels, which can project four images at the same time.
