Samsung official confirmation on the production of Snapdragon 820

Samsung confirms the start of production of the second generation of a chip production process to 14nm. Among the customers of the Korean manufacturer is also included Qualcomm: the new chips will be used to give a body to the SoC Snapdragon 820.

Samsung announced today the start of volume production of the second generation of chips made with 14nm FinFET manufacturing process. The announcement confirms a rumor circulating for some time: in the pink of the companies that will choose the new chips Korean manufacturer’s figure Qualcomm. Specifically, the future SoC Snapdragon 820 will use the chip in 14nm LPP of Samsung.

The Korean company confirmed that the second generation of chips to 14nm LPP achieves a performance increase estimated in the order of 15% and reduced consumption by 15% compared to the first generation of chips made using 14nm production process LPE. Samsung confirms that the first devices equipped with SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 will be available in the second half of the year.
