Updates to Android 9 Pie from Samsung: Latest releases in October 2019

Samsung will end to release new updates to Android 9 Pie for its devices in October 2019, one year and two months after the launch of the operating system. 24 models will be updated in all.

Samsung does not stand out positively for the timing of updates of their Android devices and will continue on this slope for the entire 2019. The company will update the Galaxy S8, the penultimate device at the top of its range, during the next month of March. The most unfortunate fate for the tablets: the update will arrive next fall.

Samsung will be committed to updating a considerable number of devices during the next year, but this will happen at the expense of the timing. The Galaxy S9 will be the first, with the launch of Android 9 Pie in January – to ” only ” 5 months from the launch of the operating system. Followed by the Galaxy Note 9 in February, and the 2017 range (Galaxy S8 and S8+, Galaxy Note 8) in March.

Following will come the Galaxy A range (Galaxy A8 / A8+ 2018, A7 2018, A9 2018) and Galaxy Tab S4 10.5 in April, while the range J (J4, J4+, J6, J6+) and the Galaxy A8 Star will be updated in May. The Galaxy J7 2017 will be updated in July, the Galaxy J7 Duo in August. At this point, it will probably be released Android Q, which will make the latest update available for obsolete smartphones already at the launch.

Worse will go to the other devices: the Galaxy Xcover 4, J3 2017 and Tab S3 9.7 will be updated in September, and Tab A 2017, Tab Active2 and Tab A 10.5 will be updated in October. With a delay of one year and two months compared to the availability of Android 9 Pie.

Update times are one of the biggest problems in the Android world, but taking more than a year to deploy an update is an extreme negative point. Although the difficulties of updating the devices are objective, it is difficult to justify Samsung’s timing given the much lower times of HMD Global with Nokia smartphones.
