Wi-Fi, New WPA3 standard for security ready for use

The Wi-Fi Alliance has announced the launch of the Wi-Fi Certified WPA3, a new security standard that comes fourteen years after the previous one.

The security of Wi-Fi networks evolves after 14 years since the last major update now that the Wi-Fi Alliance has officially launched the WPA3 protocol, the latest generation standard that promises to eliminate some of the vulnerabilities that have distinguished the wireless networks in the last years. It brings with it, for example, the individualized encryption of data, which allows you to prevent any wiretapping within the Wi-Fi networks, and much more.

Among the novelties, we also have the support of Simultaneous Authentication of Equals, which allows you to use more complex and difficult to decipher passwords, or Easy Connect, which allows you to configure Wi-Fi from smartphones even on devices that have small displays, or they have none at all. Who uses the WPA3-Enterprise protocol, designed for professional purposes, obtains a 192-bit data encryption, so a possibility of less fraudulent access.

When will we see WPA3 on our devices?

Obviously, unfortunately, there is no answer, and it depends on the manufacturers, if and when they release an update for existing devices, or new hardware compatible with the protocol. The arrival of WPA3 does not immediately translate into a strengthening of the security of Wi-Fi, given that the current WPA2 will probably be used for much longer, while maintaining interoperability with the new standard.

It is likely that in the future (probably not very close) the Alliance will certify only products compatible with the new standard, but to date we have no date on when this last ” revolution ” will be applied.
