Windows 7 at the end of its life: Full screen alerts are coming to switch to Windows 10

Microsoft has released some details on what will happen on Windows 7 installations after the end of the support (which will happen on January 14th).

The Patch Tuesday of December was the penultimate for Windows 7: the old version of the Microsoft operating system, still decidedly used, will see only one update before the end of the support in the consumer market. After the next update, Windows 7 will become potentially unsafe unless you are willing to pay to obtain Extended Security Updates (ESU).

Windows 7 support will end on January 14th, and Microsoft recently announced some things that will happen after that date. Windows 7 users will begin to see a full-screen warning informing them that the operating system they are using is no longer supported.

The warning, provided on all versions (Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate) with the exception of systems on domains or in ” kiosk mode “, will remain on the screen until the user interacts with the same.

In addition, Microsoft will not stop to suggest only the update to Windows 10. The company wants users to update the entire computer system and buy a Windows 10, with more modern hardware and potentially more suitable to run the new operating system.

PC that were sold with Windows 7 use technologies that are 10 years old and more, writes Microsoft in the last KB, and much has changed since then. The new hardware is not only faster but also and above all safer than what was around then.

Microsoft also focuses on the support of the touchscreen, a feature on which it has tried to focus since the era of Windows 8 through the revision of the user interface, and on the presence of the new Photos app, which allows a simpler and more fun image search “.

The full-screen notification is already present on the Windows 7 update released with the Patch Tuesday of December 2019, but will only be displayed starting from January 14th.
