Android-x86 7.1 or Android Nougat for x86-based computers

Android-x86 allows you to install Android on any computer with an Intel or AMD processor: with the release of the 7.1 Nougat version, native support for window applications is introduced.

The Android-x86 project has reached a new milestone: it has been released Android-x86 7.1, which brings Android Nougat on computers with Intel or AMD processor – whether desktops, laptops, 2-in-1 or tablets.

The Android-x86 project, which sees the community’s unique commitment to development and support, aims to make Android available on even those devices that are not normally equipped with an x86 processor. Google does not provide images of this type, and this is where this project comes into play.

Although it is not the latest available version of Android, Nougat is definitely more usable than its predecessors on a computer: it integrates the management of applications in window mode, which allows you to use the system in a manner more similar to a traditional operating system. The option is normally deactivated, but is activated by the Android-x86 project, which also provides the system with an application bar (developed by third parties) so that applications can be more easily managed.

Android-x86 7.1As Slashgear writes, with the release of version 7.1 is also introduced full support to boot the system in dual boot on computers equipped with UEFI, with even an option with automatic configuration to use Android-x86 as the only operating system. As with Linux distributions, it is possible to test the system by loading it from the chosen installation medium (for example: example a USB stick) before installing it.

You can consult the Android-x86 project page to get more technical details about the new ROM and how to download images.
