Many may wish one, but it will remain a single model without giving birth to a new family of cars. It is in fact a unique example restored in an electric key of a classic Mini Cooper of the last years of production.
In the world of cars there are icons that are easily recognized by anyone: the Mini is certainly one of these. The British carmaker, which since 1994 is a subsidiary of the German BMW, draws its origins from the Morris Mini Minor of 1959, and this model has characterized through some restyling throughout its history from 1959 to 2000, when the second generation of the Mini was presented, made under the protective wing of the Teutonic brand.
In recent years, BMW has declined the Mini in several models and last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show presented MINI Electric Concept, a prototype on which the future all-electric Mini is developing.
Meanwhile, engineers have performed a nostalgia operation, riding that vintage wave that seems, in the car world, but not only, unstoppable: Classic Mini Electric will hit the stage of the New York International Auto Show 2018. Its charm is decidedly big, but many reasons prevent it from making it a standard car, just think about how different the safety and impact resistance requirements are today compared to the 80s / 90s.
