Facebook: the mode that silences notifications is coming soon. Here’s how it works

A new feature is being distributed on iOS and will soon arrive on Android. It allows you to disable notifications in the app, even internal ones, at certain times of the day. Here’s the purpose.

Facebook has announced a new feature, called ” Silent Mode, “which pauses most push notifications from the app and alerts the user when the app opens when the mode is active. The sense of the new function? Allow users to more precisely manage their time in the app, alerting them when trying to access at a time when it would be better not to do so.

Which notifications will be disabled? Most, but not all: as Facebook itself specifies on the official post for some messages; the notification is mandatory by law (such as when privacy settings are changed). Also, the new Mode should not be confused with the ” Mute push notifications ” option: the latter allows you to stop push notifications, but not internal app notifications, for a certain period. By activating the Silent Mode, you can decide the times, and no more notifications will be shown in the app, such as the Watch badges, in addition to those reproduced at the system level.

Silent mode on Facebook, what it is and how it works

The new Silent Mode is integrated into the ” Your Time on Facebook ” dashboard, a novelty of November 2018, which allows you to monitor the time spent in the app in the last few days. The feature is being rolled out for all iOS users, while on Android devices, it will arrive in May according to current plans. Facebook explains that it will help users better manage their time on Facebook, even – and not only – in these periods of isolation.

Since we’re all trying to adjust to new routines and staying at home, it can be helpful to set limits on how to spend your time online, whether it’s to focus on your family and friends, to sleep without distraction. Or to manage the way you spend your time at home, we have developed tools that can help you find the right balance for the way you use Facebook, ” wrote the company.

Silent mode is not the only news of the social network: the company has added other news, including new shortcuts to the notification settings and the preferences panel of the news feed so that you can find the updates immediately at the top favorite.
