Here is the new Blackberry KEY TWO: Improves the first model from all points of view

The new Blackberry KEY TWO, announced today is a step forward in all sectors, but it is above all the much more refined and modern design that immediately catches the eye. Aluminum unibody body, thinner profile, dual camera, Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor (for performance, but also autonomy with a 3,500mAh battery), 6GB RAM and 64GB or 128GB sotrage with the possibility of installing MicroSD. There will also be a dual SIM version in some countries. Use USB C and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3 technology. Starting from the solid base of KEY ONE, Blackberry KEY TWO is now a much more mature terminal.

Blackberry is a name that has remained in the hearts of many: the terminals that first brought the e-mail on the move were the mainstay of the business in the days when there was still no mention of 3G. The 7000 series had colonized companies, seeing success grow further with the 8000 series.

Models such as Curve 8900 and Bold 9000 represented the peak of success of the then RIM. The Canadian company then tried to fight in a stronger and more direct way also on the consumer market, but right there its decline began. Models like Blackberry Storm (the touchscreen with physical feedback) represented a design and marketing effort that began to make the brand lose its core business.

The launch of Blackberry Z10 was the sum of a series of missteps, with large amounts spent on marketing an unripe product, getting to have Alicia Keys as Global Creative Director and with the abandonment of the RIM company name in favor of the best-known Blackberry. In itself Blackberry OS 10, launched with Z10, was a very solid operating system, with a very apt interface, but immediately showed its main flaw, the same that led to the death also Windows Phone: the lack of app. A patch was placed when it was possible to port Android apps, but it was late and BlackBerry Passport remained the last of the old-fashioned Blackberries.

BlackBerry Key 2Blackberry ltd then decided to abandon the market and focus on high value-added services, such as those related to security and critical communications, by licensing the Blackberry brand to the Chinese TCL for the production of smartphones. From this, agreement was born Blackberry KEY ONE, a product that had an unexpected success at the same TCL, especially in the consumer, thanks to the return of the physical keyboard QWERTY.

A very interesting product, based on Android OS with a layer of security designed by Blackberry, based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 CPU, with an autonomy that was up to 2 days. However, he had defects of youth, which Blackberry has tried to mitigate with the Black Edition version with 4GB of RAM, and that was characterized by less slowdowns. But many have continued to criticize the design of the terminal, seen a bit like a tile.

BlackBerry Key 2The new Blackberry KEY 2, announced today, is a step forward in all sectors, but it is above all the much more refined and modern design that immediately catches the eye. Unibody aluminum body, thinner profile, dual camera, Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor (for performance, but also autonomy with a 3500mAh battery), 6GB RAM and 64GB or 128GB storage with the possibility of installing MicroSD.

There will also be the dual SIM version in some countries. Use USB type C and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3 technology. Starting from the solid base of the KEY ONE, Blackberry KEY 2 is now a much more mature terminal. Also better the finish of the back, which also improves the grip.

I had the opportunity to see the terminal live in a demo under embargo during the Mobile World Congress and the comparison with the KEY ONE that I had in my pocket was definitely in favor of the new model. The fingerprint sensor on the front space bar remains very firm to use.

Blackberry has made the terminal smaller on the front, gaining several millimeters above the display, which now has a finer look, but has not let itself go to the temptation of notches and the like. It is 20 grams lighter and a millimeter less thick. It will be launched in both silver livery and in black livery from the beginning.

New for the keyboard, which has been redesigned in the form of the keys, which are now larger (without increasing the size of the keyboard): the inspiration was the keyboard of the legendary 9900. The keyboard is sensitive to touch, as on the KEY ONE, and allows you to scroll through web pages or delete quickly.

A new key is born on the keyboard (instead of the right Shift): Speed Key. To access your favorite apps and the most-used content. It can also be used in combination with letters for shortcuts, without having to go from the home screen or multitasking screen.

BlackBerry Key 2News on the front with a dual 12-megapixel rear camera: one with f/1.8 wide-angle lens and the second with 2x f / 2.6 zoom lens. It can record 4K @ 30fps video, 1080p @ 60fps HDR. It offers Portrait Mode and an improved autofocus (the latter along with reactivity was one of the weaknesses of the first model).

Speaking of security, the BlackBerry DTEK application now includes the new Proactive Health control feature, which allows you to scan the device and receive immediate feedback on potential vulnerabilities and possible optimizations. At the base, we find the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system.
