IoT Security 2.0, the Trend Micro solution to protect IoT devices

Trend Micro aims to safeguard users’ security and the reputation of hardware manufacturers with TMIS 2.0, a security solution that can be installed directly on devices, the Internet of Things.

Protecting servers, workstations and mobile device is no longer enough. Since virtually every device is connected to the Internet – from the temperature sensor to surveillance cameras, through electronic locks and lighting systems – even the seemingly most trivial object can become a vehicle for infection.

Science fiction? No, hard and raw reality. Just think of Mirai, the malware that attacks IP cameras and routers and includes them in a botnet used for DDoS attacks.

Here is the need for more adequate security measures, capable of monitoring not only the corporate architecture and the devices of employees but also all those apparently harmless devices that could be exploited to attack the company. Trend Micro’s solution to the problem is called Trend Micro IoT Security (TMIS) 2.0 and is designed to act already in the development phase.

This is not a sort of antivirus to be installed at the rear but a protection that is integrated into the devices already under development. It will check the integrity of the firmware every time the device is started, checking for updates, and will only allow access and control to white list applications.

Trend Micro IoT Security 2.0 can be installed on any device based on an Android or Linux distribution and based on ARM, MIPS and X86 architecture with at least 20 MB of memory.
