According to the company, a ” limited ” number of units produced between March 2019, and October 2019 presents a problem that causes that the display becomes permanently black.

Apple also claims that the screen of the affected models may flicker a few times unexpectedly before it becomes unusable. iPad owners who have verified the problem can have the display replaced free of charge by contacting an Apple Authorized Center or an Apple Store. Here is the official note:

Apple has determined that, under certain circumstances, the screen on a limited number of iPad Air (3rd generation) devices may remain permanently black. The phenomenon may arise after a brief flicker or other artifacts.

The free replacement program for iPad Air is only available for the iPad Air third-generation models produced between March 2019 and October 2019, also because – according to the official press release – no other model should present the problem. In any case, the iPad Air third-generation that can participate in the free repair program is only those produced by the dates indicated by the company.

Anyone wishing to take advantage of the campaign can contact the company or take the defective iPad to an Apple Store or an authorized repair center.
