Leica T (Typ 701) is the new mirrorless Leica
The German company lifts the veil on the new Leica T, mirrorless new high-end, extremely sophisticated design but prices still more than those of the competition. Leica has finally unveiled the new Leica T (Typ 701), the first mirrorless interchangeable lens chamber of the German company, if one excludes the historic M series rangefinder. The new Leica T introduces several new features: the camera is a true Leica not just a rebrand of Panasonic cameras (although we do not know yet where the production takes place); the body is made of aluminum, with a unibody, made in collaboration with AUDI Design, very similar in style to the products of Apple.
The design is very elegant and minimalistic, with buttons and joints reduced to bone: just think that there is no button on the back, but all the controls are chosen through the large 3.7-inch touch screen, which occupies entire surface, except for some selection dials positioned on the back. The core technology consists of the APS-C 16 MP without low-pass filter, which confirms the desire of Leica explore this photographic format, with the option to shoot in Full HD video and shots from ISO 100 to ISO 12,500.
Also available Wi-Fi connection and a special application for iOS, now available on the App Store at this address, 16 GB onboard memory, expandable via SD card, internal flash. The cameras will also come with various accessories, including an adapter for M lenses, electronic viewfinder with built-in GPS and several cases of style. As always, the Leica products do not reach the shelves in good market if the price of the camera is overall content to be a Leica, about €1,545, the camera is sold only the body, there is not a kit lens.
The only two available lenses, Leica Vario-Elmar 18-56 mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH-T and T-Leica Summicron 23mm f / 2 ASPH will be sold at a price of €1,490 and €1,650 respectively. The conclusion is that the minimum price for taking home a Leica T will be about 3000 euro, unless you are already own lenses M, which would buy the body only and adapter for M-mount, which in if it costs €295, bringing the computation to 2,500 dollars.
