Qualcomm launches the 215 Mobile Platform

The new Mobile Platform introduces for the first time some new features in the low end of the American manufacturer. Here is all the news and how it will bring the mainstream segment into practice.

Qualcomm announced a new addition to the ” 2 Series ” processors, the Qualcomm 215 Mobile Platform, which aims to improve the user experience of entry-level smartphones by bringing reliability and performance even after longer sessions of use.

The new mobile platform is based on a CPU with four ARM Cortex-A53 cores and compared to the previous generation it should deliver a 50% performance boost with Qualcomm data in hand.

For the first time in the history of the family, we have a 64-bit CPU, which translates not only into a huge performance advantage, but also and above all into greater longevity with native support for 64-bit applications. Qualcomm 215 also incorporates a DSP Qualcomm Hexagon, a GPU Adreno 308 and support for Quick Charge technology to reduce charging times.

How much? The company promises a 75% increase in recharging speed compared to traditional implementations, with fast recharging, which also reaches the lower end of commercial products.

The technology will allow charging processes with lower energy consumption, with better heat dissipation and reduced recharge times with negligible losses in battery performance. The new processor implements dual ISP, also an absolute first in the family, which allow two photographic modules to be managed at the same time with support for depth effects.

Qualcomm 215 is also capable of managing and processing images from up to 13MP and supports HD+ resolution for the display. The graphic power is increased by 28% compared to the predecessor, with the possibility to manage only ” casual ” games that do not require great computational powers.

Integrated into the Mobile Platform we have the Snapdragon X5 modem which supports Cat 4 LTE networks for download speeds of up to 150 Mbps with Carrier Aggregation technology. There is also support for EVS Voice calls, Dual SIM and VoLTE on both SIM.

In short, the new processor completely revolutionizes the entry-level family of Qualcomm mobile platforms. There are many firsts in the family, and among these we have: a 64-bit CPU, double ISP, support for up to 13MP photos, video recording in Full HD, video resolution for HD displays with modern aspect ratios, DSP Hexagon for audio, Dual SIM with Dual VoLTE, EVS Voice calls, support for 802.11ac Wi-Fi and there is also support for payments via NFC on Android.

Qualcomm 215 is already ready on the technological level, and is expected to debut on the first commercial devices starting from the second half of 2019.
